An ‘Early Contractor Involvement’ process is a successful procurement model as it encourages collaboration be it by workshops and other means in the upfront design and development stage of the project, this is generally between the principal and the required contractors. Working on the design and complex issues at the early onset of any project can reduce potential risks and contract variations. The ECI model ideally aims to seek out the contractor’s specialist knowledge and expertise of the construction process to benefit the interior design solutions. The ECI model isn’t always implemented for cost efficiencies; however, it does create higher transparency of costs, but also ensures a well thought out and resolved project for the client and business outcomes.
