Sense Projects were appointed for the Billabong Head Office Fitout which was the second fitout project we have completed in this building. The associated works included the demolition of the existing base building ceilings & floor finishes and with new fitout works that included reception & waiting area, display walls, staff casual hub, utilities area, customer service area, storage, showrooms that incorporated change rooms, office, open plan workspace and retail display. The Billabong workplace is a response to the company’s desire to project an appropriate professional image yet incorporating the ‘Billabong Culture’ within a welcoming, casual & relaxed environment. The open plan work areas enhance teamwork and collaboration whilst still balancing the need for privacy. Showroom spaces incorporating change room areas provide essential support to the workspace. The location of the utility area separates the informal ‘Staff casual hub’ from the workplace whilst still maintaining a sense of open-ness. The workplace provides staff with access to daylight & views with visual barriers minimized to enhance vision across the floor. The planning & design allow for flexibility in how and where the staff interact & work.

The design itself imposed additional construction challenges as it was an interstate client and therefore constant communication was paramount. Sense Project had to individually select the timber for the feature wall from the timber yard. It was critical that the set-outs for the plywood wall were carried out correctly as all the panels and pivot doors to the showrooms were custom made. Building services were all D&C contracts and comprised mainly of the modification to existing electrical, mechanical, fire & hydraulic services.
